Goal:
Students will create a car made entirely of recycled material that will travel down an incline while transporting a raw egg that should not break or eject when the car crashes into a solid barrier.

Size: 

bulletNo Larger than 25 cm3
bulletMass not greater than 2000g (2kg)

Materials:

bulletCommon Household Materials (ex. food boxes, tape, glue, paper clips, plastic containers, lids, bottle tops etc.)
bulletNo store bought wheels (No Toys allowed)
bullet Resealable Plastic bag mounted on car for egg
bulletEgg will be provided by the Teacher (DO NOT BRING YOUR OWN EGG!)

Rules:

  1. Car must be student created (No toys or models allowed).
  2. Egg must be placed in the car just prior to the race and easily accessible to the mounted plastic bag.
  3. The design must allow for easy opening and removal of the egg for inspection.
  4. Use only the materials suggested on the materials list.
  5. Car must accelerate due to its own mass and gravity.
  6. The car must not pose any danger to spectators. (No glass, propulsion devices, or explosives)
  7. Be prepared to clean up your mess, if necessary.
  8. A raw grade A large egg will be provided by the teacher.
  9. Student will have three attempts to strike the barrier- However, once the contact is made with the barrier, all other attempts are null and void.
  10. If the car becomes no longer functional and can not be repaired within 2 minutes the car becomes disqualified.
  11. Parachutes may not be used.
  12. Containers will be massed and measured two days prior to the contest.
  13. Students will have 10 minutes to prepare their car before the competition
  14. NO HORSEPLAY. If your egg breaks before the competition, it will not be replaced and your car will be disqualified.
  15. Contestants are to bring their cars to the event- No materials will be provided for onsite building or repairs, however students may bring materials for minor repairs.
  16. Car should accelerate down a 5 meter incline.
  17. The egg must remain safe and intact while colliding with a barrier at the base of the incline.
  18. The student will calculate the speed of their car based on the time and distance traveled.
  19. The safest and fastest car wins the Tallad-egg-a 500!!
